Locals will be set for a night of inspiration at the upcoming ArtsMAD event.

It is being held on Wednesdayat the Arts Village, with the doors opening at 5.30pm and the first speaker beginning at 6pm.

The speakers include Okere Falls Store owner Sarah Uhl, dance artist Jacinta Landon, Richard Rugg of Rotorua Little Theatre, musician Ra Apanui, visual artist Derk Schepers, architect Darryl Church and screen-print artist Sophie Perry.

Co-organiser Jill Walker says the number of people attending has been building up in the last couple of events, which she says is awesome.

She enjoys seeing people set up collaborations as a result of ArtsMAD.

"To me, that's one of the greatest parts."

She says the event also offers a great chance for those attending to see the exhibitions currently on show at The Arts Village.

Visual artist Derk Schepers says with so many different artists and their opinions the event has great variety and is exciting.

He says in his talk he will be touching on what he has done, which is mostly fine art, though last year he did 3D work which he enjoyed and "brilliant comments" from.

Derk says what he likes about art is the creativity.

"You can be down in the dumps and then create something beautiful, and do yourself and favour, and other people too."

He says one of the great things about events with other artists is the inspiration that comes from others.
