Controlled burn no cause for alarm

Smoke in the Matipo Ave area is no cause for alarm, according to the New Zealand Fire Service.

Rotorua residents are being advised smoke from a fire on the outskirts of Rotorua is being controlled.

A representative from the New Zealand Fire Service said a controlled burn has been happening this afternoon in the vicinity of Matipo Ave.

They said the situation had been assessed by the Fire Service and the public had no need to be concerned.

The Rotorua Daily Post has been contacted by readers in the area who were alarmed about the amount of smoke in the area.
