Drone enthusiasts are now free to fly their craft over Opotiki's reserves after the activity was approved at a full council meeting last week.
The small Eastern Bay town previously made international headlines over its intention to establish the blanket approval following a law change earlier this year.
The proposal highlighted Opotiki as a drone-friendly destination and people in Bolivia and South Africa, among other countries, emailed council staff to say they'd visit Opotiki on their next holiday.
Councillors unanimously agreed to establish the blanket approval at last week's meeting.
The Civil Aviation Authority introduced a new law on August 1 that means people can't fly their drones over private land without the owner's permission and a safety plan or an operating certificate.
Anyone caught breaking this law will face a $5000 fine.
