Soon, Rotorua parents who lose their tiny babies will have a chance to take them home for a short time, thanks to one mum's tribute to her baby girl.
Ashleigh French has fundraised enough money to buy two "cuddle cots", each a special cooling device that fits inside a bassinet or basket to allow families of babies who have died to take them home for a short time.
One cot will be kept at Rotorua Hospital, the other will go to Waikato Hospital.
Ms French started fundraising for the devices in February with the aim to get a cot for Rotorua by December 13, which would have been daughter Luka's third birthday.
Luka died about 20 minutes after she was born by caesarean section after reduced foetal movements.
