Rotorua mothers are celebrating 50 years of breastfeeding support in New Zealand.
Dozens of mums and babies are expected to gather at the Rotorua Hospital boardroom on Saturday, June 14, for a morning tea celebration to mark the anniversary.
Since 1964, thousands of New Zealand families have benefited from mother-to-mother support thanks to a small group of women who began La Leche League in New Zealand.
Today there is a network of nearly 50 groups across the country.
"We owe so much to the pioneering women who taught us how important support is to new mums," said Chris Gower-Rudman, from Rotorua.
