Rotorua students took to the stage at the Shakespeare Festival, winning over the crowd with their creative takes on the works of the 16th century playwright.
Students from five local high schools performed a series of five-minute and 15-minute scenes by the playwright at the regional Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ) University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival, held at Rotorua Lakes High School on Saturday.
About 100 people turned out to watch the 80 students perform a range of scenes from tragedies such as Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet to comedies like Much Ado About Nothing.
Event co-ordinator Jennifer Wicks said she was blown away by the talent of the students.
"It was just brilliant. The performances were of an incredibly high standard," she said.
