Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash near Kawerau on Saturday.

One person died in the crash which happened on State Highway 34, also known as Kawerau Loop Rd, about 10.30am.

Police believe a couple stopped in the area after the crash.

They would like to speak to this couple or anyone else who can offer assistance.
