Welcome to the Rotorua Daily Post online coverage of the Bayleys National Sevens. Keep checking back throughout the weekend for updates of scores from the men's and women's competitions.

W= Women's, M= Men's

We are now into Day 2 of the sevens action. Today is finals day with pool positions decided last night teams are now vying for the Championship, Plate, Bowl and Shield.

Men's Championship Final
Auckland 17 Wellington 28 (5-19)

Auckland 12 Manawatu 19 (7-14)

Plate Final
Manawatu 40 Bay of Plenty 17 (19-12)

Disappointment for the Bay but Manawatu were all over the Bay from the get-go scoring two fast tries. Going into half-time with a 5 point deficit it still looked open but Manawatu closed down on the Bay and made the most of their own opportunities.

Wellington join Auckland in the final, to be played at 7.30pm.

Auckland 17 Northland 14 (5-7)

Auckland the first team through to the final.

Plate Semifinal
Bay of Plenty 21 Otago 19 (14-7)

Bay of Plenty will play Otago for the Plate at 6.25pm. It was a fiercely contested match with the lead swapping sides throughout. A solo effort through the posts from Filipo Nakosi saved the day for the Bay with a try in the dying seconds to level. The successful conversion meant the Bay avoided extra time and the dreaded golden point.

Defending champions Manawatu through to the final.

Mid Canterbury through to the Shield final at 5.35pm

Wellington through to semis and play Auckland. Otago play Bay of Plenty in the Plate semi.

Taranaki 24 Bay of Plenty 5 (12-5)

Taranaki take on Wellington in the Plate final at 5.10pm

Taranaki are through to the Cup semifinal at 4.25pm. While the Bay next play in the Plate semifinal at 3.45pm.

Bay of Plenty were out classed on the field but Te Aihe Toma showed his skill with two wide tries with one in the dying seconds. Taranaki were too strong in their defensive play to let the Bay get too much of a showing.

The Plate final is at 5.10pm.

M Northland 26 Canterbury 0 (12-0)

Northland play Auckland in the Cup semifinal, Canterbury take on Manawatu in the Plate semifinal

M Manawatu 14 Auckland 19* (7-7)

Auckland's extra time try gives them a berth in the Cup semifinal at 4.05pm. Manawatu will play in the Plate semifinal.

W Waikato 29 Bay of Plenty 5 (12-0)

Waikato through to Cup semifinal v Auckand and the Bay of Plenty now play Taranaki in the Plate semifinal.

The Bay of Plenty team were thwarted in their effort to go for the cup by a too strong Waikato. The Waikato team ran rings around them, with set moves working in their favour. One try from Ariana Mark-Solomon got some points on the board for the Bay.

Winner through to Bowl semi v North Harbour loser to Shield v Tasman.

W Auckland 22 Taranaki 7(10-7)

Auckland through to Cup semifinal, Taranaki through to Plate semifinal

Manawatu play Counties in Cup semifinal, Otago plays Wellington in the semifinal for the Plate.

M Counties Manukau 36 Mid Canterbury 5 (17-5)

Counties through to Bowl semifinal against Hawkes Bay. Mid Canterbury through to Shield semifinal against Poverty Bay.

Counties through to Cup semifinal at 2.45pm. Wellington go through to Plate semifinal, played at 2.05pm.

M Hawkes Bay 24 Poverty Bay 14 (7-7)

Hawkes Bay go through to the Bowl semifinal at 3.25pm, Poverty Bay through to the Shield semifinal at 2.45pm.

M Counties Manukau 21 Bay of Plenty 17 (14-7)

Despite going down to Counties in the final match of the day, Bay of Plenty have finished second in their pool behind Northland. A never-say-die attitude from the Bay led to a try in the final seconds of the match and kept them safely in second place in their pool.

M Hawkes Bay 12 Otago 29 (12-10)

W Counties Manukau 36 Bay of Plenty 0 (17-0)

Counties Manukau showed their class beating Bay of Plenty to take second spot in the women's Pool A behind Manawatu. The home side failed to shut down playmaker Cynthia Taala, who scored twice in the first half and set up a number of her side's second half tries to take the win.

Two tries from Hana Tapiata and one from Stacey Waaka gave the Bay a good half time lead, which they held on to despite a second half comeback from the Taranaki team.

M Northland 12 Bay of Plenty 17 (5-5)

A stunning try from Akira Mako with no time left on the clock sealed the win for the Bay. Northland opened the scoring but the Bay fought back with a try from Te Aihe Toma. Half time it was 5-all and Northland were first to score again in the second half but Elliot Hagen fought back almost instantly. It was Mako who stole the show though. The Bay almost guaranteed a place in the knock-out stages.

W Bay of Plenty 0 Manawatu 43 (0-19)

Manawatu are the top seeds so not entirely unexpected to see a defeat but hopefully it won't dampen the girls' spirits too much.

After being level at half time the Bay came out the winners thanks to two tries from Adam McGarvey.

W Bay of Plenty 19 Canterbury 19 (5-12)

The Bay turned the game around after a shocking first half to draw 19 all thanks to two last minute tries, one apiece from Gen Pearson and Kimbillie Raynes. The girls are all fired up for the rest of the tournament.
