Rotorua residents may need to pack their raincoats this week as showers are expected for the area.

Metservice meteorologist Andy Best said a number of small showers will sweep the region throughout the week.

The showers are expected to increase as the week goes on with a cold front coming up on Thursday that is likely to turn to rain, he said.

Looking at today, residents can expect cloudy conditions with a few showers developing this evening.

Warm northerly winds cover the country today, ahead of a front approaching from the Tasman Sea. Maximum temperatures are especially warm about eastern areas. For all your weather needs go to https://t.co/Yjbq0jxdqz ^AB pic.twitter.com/vBqNX7xOqQ
