It has been two decades since three Rotorua water sports clubs got together and decided to share facilities.
Yesterday, about 60 people gathered at the Rotorua Lakes Water Sports Trust lakefront building to mark the trust's 20th anniversary.
Trust convenor Stuart Burns said the trust was formally launched on August14, 1993 - a collaboration among the Rotorua Yacht Club, the Rotorua Rowing Club and the Rotorua Coastguard.
The rowing club was then based at Lake Okareka but was keen to return to Lake Rotorua. While the yacht club already had a building on the site, it was in need of constant repair which they couldn't manage. Redevelopment of the building began and in 1995 it was completed.
Since then Rotorua's Underwater Club, Fishing Club, Young Mariners and Trailer Yacht Squadron have also joined the trust, bringing all the lake's users under one roof.
Former mayor Grahame Hall and former Rotorua MP Paul East were foundation members of the trust.
Mr East said the trust's building was a great asset to the community and an excellent example of groups working together. Mr Hall congratulated all the clubs on the good job they did looking after young people.
