Rotorua ukulele players will get a chance to learn the finer points of the humble stringed instrument with a workshop by two accomplished players from Australia.
Jane Jelbart and Mark Jackson, who hail from Newcastle, will direct the event on Sunday at The Arts Village.
They have played with theUkulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and have taught more than 800 people - aged 5 to 93 years old - to play the ukulele in the past three years.
They said ukestration suited a range of people - from a ukulele player wanting to learn more about theory and technique, or one who felt there must be more to offer audiences than nostalgic singalongs, to ukulele group leaders wanting to include beginners and advanced players.
"It is also a way of teaching skills to a group, combined with the wonderful flexibility of the ukulele, using appropriate and popular songs arranged into parts for a ukulele orchestra.
"The song arrangements make everyone feel part of a fun and rewarding musical enterprise, no matter whether they've been playing for an hour or a decade."
The session would include learning to play contemporary songs in parts that ranged from "dead easy to challenging".
