During the Rugby World Cup, there will be advertising "clean" zones and transport routes to protect event sponsors from non-sponsors looking to hijack the event.
A clean zone is an area around the game venue that must be free of unauthorised advertising to avoid "ambush marketing'' by non-sponsors on match day
and the day before.
In Rotorua, this includes the stadium, Ray Boord Park, neighbouring sports grounds used for parking and small sections of Devon St and Pukehangi Rd.
The same rules apply to "clean'' state highway transport routes to the venue.
Rotorua's clean transport route is shown in the accompanying map, running along SH5 from Lake Rd to Mokoia Rd, on SH30 from Mokoia Dr to Te Ngae Rd and SH30A _ Te Ngae Rd into Amohau St and Pukuatua St back to SH5.
In these areas, existing businesses may go about their usual business, but any other visible advertising is prohibited _ whether on the roadside or on private property. This includes branded vehicles (parked or moving), sky writing and branded clothing worn by a co-ordinated group.
Street trading and busking is also restricted to operators licensed by the Rugby World Cup. Unofficial businesses in the clean areas may not extend into public spaces, unless this is normal practice.
Anybody planning promotional or trading activities near the match venue during the Cup should contact Rotorua District Council or a lawyer for advice on whether this is permitted.
