Northland's representative golf players are dusting the cobwebs off their clubs as they prepare to play their first tournament of the year tomorrow.
Northland's team to play the SBS Southland invitational at Invercargill's Otatara Golf Course has an experimental look to it, selector Roy Pelsky said - for good reason.
"We had
a lot of trouble getting some of our senior players to front up for the tournament, maybe it was because it was in Southland," he laughed.
He said many of the players had been too busy or hadn't been playing enough golf to be of much use to the team, giving Pelsky a chance to play around with the team.
"We decided we'd give a couple of last year's juniors, Jamie Dobson and Sam Corbett, a shot at playing at the tournament," he said. The two young Kerikeri players are accompanied by Gary-John Hill, Richard Pelsky and Michael Foster. The team arrived yesterday and was to spend today adapting to the cooler conditions forecast for the tournament.
They will get a practice round, in the form of a sponsorship day, to acquaint themselves with the course.
The team play two rounds daily for tomorrow and Sunday, with the worst score discarded on each round.
