A nerve-wracking countback dominated the final round of the Mini Circuit showjumping competition at Barge Showgrounds on Sunday.
Alycia Burton riding Storm Dance led Rochelle Frost on Mizprint going into the final round of competition of the Horse 1.10-1.25m class but Burton didn't have the best of days and only added
three points to her total.
Frost on the other hand could do little wrong and scored 14 points from her three rounds to draw level with Burton on 66 points.
A countback resulted and finally Frost was awarded the overall title for the year.
Vicki Wilson, who didn't compete on the final day, was third, fifth and sixth, on different mounts, while Natasha Lammers was fourth.
Alyx Pivac, riding Ridgewood Omega, won the Pony 1m-1.15m circuit, accruing the most points of any of the winners of the four classes.
Second was another absentee, Vicki Berger, who was enjoying success further south at the Taupo Christmas Classic.
Berger narrowly missed out on a win in the 1.25m Accumulater in Taupo, beaten by South Island rider Daniel Stackhouse.
Dargaville's Megan Battersby, on Tally Ho Bandit, won the 1.25m Pony Grand Prix, with Berger fourth in the same event.
Third place in the Northland Pony event went to Samantha MacPherson on My Paparore Zeena, while Adam Cook, Pivac and Lisetta Hale took fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Ria Gunson easily won the Dunstan Horse 90cm-1m class with 65 points. The next best was Michelle Boyce-Bacon on Rata Mill Oslo, ahead of Hayley Fluher on Made Yer Blink.
Samantha Felton, Hayley Braithwaite and Briar Corbett took out the minor placings.
The Pony 80-90cm class was a lot closer with Sophie Burling on Jupiter's Boy just pipping Nakesysha Lammers riding London Fog in the final round to take first place.
Stephanie Archer on Micardo Alkatraz finished ahead of Lammers on her second mount Inchcliffe Sovereign in third place with Paige Corbett and Dana Genefaas rounding out the minor placings.
