The Northland under-15 development side, with Christian Arneil to the fore, were the only Northland team to beat their North Harbour counterparts in representative age-group cricket matches at Kensington Park, Whangarei, on Sunday.
Christian led from the front, opening the batting and hitting a near-faultless 58 to see his side to
a total of 201. He put up an impressive performance on the bouncy artificial surface and found some support in Harry Dyke who hit 45. Christian was cheap with the ball too, taking one wicket for 16 in eight overs.
But it was Northland's Jeremy Guy who nailed back the North Harbour assault taking five for 34 off his 10 overs to see the visitors all out for 151.
Curtis Cherrington, 27, and Aaron McIntosh, 25, were the pick of the Northland under-15 batsmen when they went down to North Harbour under-15 by 35 runs.
Harbour batted first on the new grass pitch which offered a medium to fast track.
Northland opening-bowler Aaron McIntosh tied down the bastmen for a while taking two wickets for 25 off 10 overs as Harbour totalled 171. Northland managed 136 in reply.
Henry Cooper was the backbone of Northland under-14 A when they met North Harbour under-15 A on a slow artificial wicket.
Henry stood out with both bat and ball and was well supported by Jarrod Mongston with the bat.
Jarrod top-scored with 23 while Henry, batting at No.5 hit 16 and bowling at No.5 took two for 15 off eight overs, including two maidens. Ben Edwards and Aiden Miller put up a gallant fightback for Northland under-14 development against North Harbour under-14 development. The pair came together as Northland struggled at 51 for six and went on to add a further 85, Ben hitting 53 and Aiden 24.
But it wasn't quite enough as Harbour went on to win by 45 runs.
