Police are appealing for help from the public after a 60-year-old woman was indecently assaulted on a walking track in the Bay of Islands.
The incident occurred between 12.30 and 1pm when police say the woman was accosted by a young man on the walkway from Haruru Falls to the
Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
Police said the young man allegedly performed an indecent act in front of her, then committed an indecent assault on the woman. He then fled towards the Haruru Falls carpark. The woman was shaken but unhurt.
Sergeant Kevin Milne, of Kawakawa police, said he was concerned about the man's behaviour and wanted to hear from anyone who knew who he was or knew of similar incidents in the area.
The offender was described as Maori with smooth skin, wearing a black beanie, sky-blue track pants, a teal-coloured T-shirt, and a baggy grey hoodie. He had a black backpack with burgundy sides.
