Land on your feet!
That's pretty much guaranteed here at Ruraltec, why? Because Ruraltec is the only training provider north of the bridge accredited to deliver the qualification for the National Certificate in Farming skills - work ready. And that's a big deal - considering we are now dealing with Northland'sbillion dollar industry, and also the demand that the industry has for good young people.
Ruraltec not only educates students on the likes of animal health, pasture, physiology, mating, calving, calf rearing, tractors, ATV's, it also teaches life skills.
Having now convinced you that there aren't really any other suitable careers for you apart from farming, how do you get started?
While farming is one occupation where it is possible to start work directly from school, in most cases some form of pre-entry training such as Ruraltec's full time Northland Certificate in Farming skills programme will make a huge difference to you. There are three major benefits to this type of programme. Firstly, it gives students up a farming job as they have the basic knowledge, skills and attitude to fit into a modern farm.
Secondly, it helps to fast track their qualifications. The people who graduate from the full-time programme can become Modern Apprentices and finish their National Certificate in Agriculture Level 4, within the next year.
Thirdly, it significantly increases earning power. As an example, one of our students who graduated from our programme in June last year is working on a dairy farm north of Whangarei and at 18, is on a total salary package of approx $32,000 per year.
The programme starts in February and finishes in November, with work placements starting in July, in time for the start of the dairy season, Successful students finish the program with a National Certificate in Farming Skills Level 3.
They may then go on to become AG ITO farm trainees (and possibly Modern Apprentices), finish their certificate and continue on towards the Production Management and Agri - business diploma. The employment prospects are excellent within excess of 95 per cent of people graduating from the programme finding employment.
