A pair that allegedly swapped seats have not fooled police.
A police pursuit in Whangarei, which saw the occupants of the fleeing vehicle allegedly change seats twice, ended after the driver went down no-exit road. Senior Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe said a vehicle heading north on SH1 Mata was pulled over by police after it was clocked going over 100km/h about9.45am on Saturday.
When stopped by police the driver of the car, a 29-year-old male, allegedly swapped positions with the passenger, a 32-year-old female. When the officer approached the man, who was now in the passenger seat, the female drove off.
The fleeing vehicle was pursued north to Whangarei where the driver allegedly did a u-turn when it reached a police cordon.
Police say the male and female swapped positions again. Police spikes were set up but when the driver saw police he turned right into a no exit road.
