Even the most seasoned performers get nervous before sharing a stage with an NZ Idol judge in front of thousands of fans - but not the kids from Whangarei Primary.
The school's choir will be backing entertainer and Idol icon Frankie Stevens, headline act at this Thursday's Carols in the Park.
Lauren Eilering, 11, will perform with Frankie on the Kiwi version of Twelve Days of Christmas. So does that make her nervous?
"Not really ... I've sung in front of audiences for school assemblies and I've watched Frankie Stevens on TV. He's quite cool," she said.
Also brimming with confidence is 11-year-old Keanu Potatau, who performed in front of thousands at last month's fireworks night.
While hiphop is his usual music of choice, "Christmas music is pretty catchy too".
And Codie Perris, 10, can't wait to meet his Idol idol: "He seems really cool - I'm gonna ask if I can have his autograph for my little brother."
Music teacher George Karklins said the 60-strong choir would perform six carols and back Frankie Stevens on another two.
"The kids are very, very excited. They really want to do well because Frankie Stevens will be there."
• Carols in the Park starts 6pm on Thursday, December 15 in Whangarei's Laurie Hall Park. It will be hosted by breakfast radio DJs Craig and Jax, with a line-up including Frankie Stevens, the Whangarei Primary School choir, Whangarei Pipe Band, Whangarei District Brass band, Shaan Antunovich and, of course, Santa. For the older kids, `After Dark' from 9.30 features hiphop dancers AMD and covers band RSB.
