Kerikeri Liquorland's new owner had a less than warm welcome to the Bay of Islands town when the door to his business was smashed and a large quantity of spirits was stolen.
The break-in was discovered yesterday morning with police arresting a 25-year-old Kerikeri man later in the day. Hewas due in the Kaikohe District Court this morning.
The new owner, who previously owned the Liquorland outlet in Kaikohe, has had the business for only a matter of days. About $600 worth of stock was taken.
Sergeant Ross Laurie, of Kerikeri police, said the burglar was identified thanks to CCTV footage. Inquiries to locate his co-offender were continuing. The alcohol has not been recovered.
A night earlier thieves used bolt cutters to break in to a chiller at Ake Ake Restaurant, on Waimate North Rd near Kerikeri, and made off with a large quantity of food.
