Traffic was held up and the road narrowed to one lane after the trailer of a loaded logging truck flipped on State Highway One near Waiomio.
No one was hurt in the incident that happened about 10km south of Kawakawa just after 3pm yesterday.
One lane remained closed for at least four
hours until machinery was able to remove the trailer, which had ended upside down on the shoulder of the road and was protruding on to the southbound lane.
Logs were strewn over the side of the road and a ditch.
It is the second time in a week a logging truck has come to grief on Northland roads.
Kaitaia man Maurice Riki, 64, died when the truck he was driving careered off SH1 at Pamapuria, about 10km south of Kaitaia, last Thursday.
Police said it appeared the trailer's wheels clipped a culvert, sending the truck careering across the road where it landed upside down.
