Three interns from Dargaville's Big River FM have been getting valuable work experience at another Northland radio station - spending time with The Hits Northland presenter Charmaine Soljak at the station's Whangarei studio.
Kate Coley, Ana Davies and Josiah O'Connell, all studying at Tauranga's NZ School of Radio, are on
a six-month long internship at Big River FM, learning all aspects of radio craft, from ad writing to producing and hosting shows.
They have also spent time in The Hits Northland studio in the NZME Building in Robert St, Whangarei with Ms Soljak, who said it was a great way of helping out young broadcasters and sharing her experience and knowledge.
"It's great to see them embracing radio broadcasting and they are keen to get more experience here. The last intern we had from Big River is now working fulltime in the industry," she said.
Mr O'Connell, originally from Nelson, said the advantages of interning at a small station like Big River was that they got to experience all aspects of radio broadcasting. Then, being able to go to a larger regional station like The Hits Northland allowed them to get invaluable training they could not get elsewhere.
