Thieves, shoplifters and fraudsters, be warned: You may have to be a lot more clever to get away with your deceitful ways in Whangarei shops.
City Safe - a collaboration between the Northland Chamber of Commerce, the Whangarei District Council and the Whangarei Police - is running a free two-hour after-work seminar this evening for any retailer wanting to know what their rights are in dealing with law-breakers, what to do when they see them on their premises and how to reduce the risk of being a target.
The seminar is being held at Dickens Inn in the CBD, upstairs, starting at 5.30pm.
David Moss, who chairs city business group Vitalise Whangarei, the Northland Chamber of Commerce's presence in the central city, says shoplifting is an issue for any retailer selling products rather than services, no matter what those products are.
"It's prompted City Safe to get proactive about helping our retailers to protect themselves with know-how, observation and strategies," he said.
