Heavy rain closes roads, brings down trees in Northland, road closed at Whakapara

Some of the last vehicles to make it through floodwaters on State Highway 1 before the road was closed.

Heavy rain saturated Northland yesterday causing flooding, slips and trees to come down.

The weather caused some power outages and school closures.

Whakapara, north of Whangārei, was the worst hit with flooding closing State Highway 1.

Senior Constable Stefan Billings alerts traffic to a pot-hole on State Highway 1 near Hikurangi which had damaged about five cars.

Flooding at Whakapara forced the closure of State Highway 1.
