Former All Black Glenn Taylor will be among past pupils who will gather for the 125th reunion celebrations at the Tangiteroria School.
Past and present associates of the school will gather on June 3 and 4 to reminisce the years spent at the small rural school, situated on State Highway 14
halfway between Dargaville and Whangarei.
European settlement of the area began as early as the 1830s and in 1836 a Wesleyan mission station was set up by James Wallis.
Today the small school set among stands of native bush is a co-educational full primary school with a decile rating of 5 and roll of about 51. It is well supported by its local mainly farming community.
During the 1860s, the Tangiteroria settlement was a busy hub dispatching kauri logs down the Northern Wairoa River for milling. Later a flax mill operated in the area.
With no official road access until the 1890s, steamer services to Tangiteroria from Dargaville operated from 1878 until 1929.
Railway stations at nearby Kirikopuni and Pukehuia also provided a passenger and stock service.
The reunion kicks off on Friday night at 6.30pm with a mix, mingle and bistro at the Tangiteroria Sporting Complex.
This event is open to the public as a fundraiser, so anyone can pop along for a "great feed and night out".
The formal events of the reunion will start at the school at 9am, followed by dinner at 6pm and a reunion dance at 9pm at the complex.
