A person has died and three other people seriously hurt following a two-vehicle crash involving a truck in Ruakākā this afternoon.
Two people seriously injured in the accident on Pokapu Rd near the intersection with One Tree Point Rd have been airlifted to Starship Hospital in Auckland.
A third person in a moderate condition has been taken to Whangārei Hospital by ambulance.
St John spokeswoman Beverley Tse said paramedics were called to the scene of the crash around 4.30pm.
Three ambulances, two Northland Rescue Helicopters and volunteer fire brigades from Ruakākā, Waipū, Whangārei, and Whangareu Operational Support rushed to the crash site.
A police spokesman said the Serious Crash Unit will investigate the scene and circumstances of the crash.
Meanwhile, a person has died following a crash involving a motorcycle in a car park area near Napier Rd in Havelock North.
Emergency services and a rescue helicopter were called to the incident at about 3.30pm.
A police spokesperson said the helicopter initially responded after reports of a single vehicle crash - involving what was originally described as a dirt bike - which had injured one person.
Police also confirmed a person has died in the Taruheru River in Gisborne this afternoon. The incident, also attended to by two ambulances, occurred in the Mangapapa area at 4.40pm.
Victim support has been notified for the family involved and the death would be referred to the Coroner.
