Robert Blewden

Robert Blewden

Northland police are hunting for a man wanted on breach of release conditions and methamphetamine charges who sparked a car chase south of Whangarei.

They are urging the public to report any sightings of 37-year-old Robert Blewden by calling 111 immediately. Police say the 1.73m tall, medium-build European is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

About 10.15pm last Saturday police received a report of a burglary in Waipu . The offender was seen leaving in an old white car. 10 minutes later police saw the car heading north on State Highway One. They chased on to Mangapai and Paparoa-Oakleigh roads.

The car was spiked near Paparoa. The driver fled on foot through town and it's thought he took a blue Ford Ranger ute, plate DQE887, from a farm on Franklin Rd.

Police believe the driver involved was Blewden and ask for Northlanders' help to find him. They also want to hear about sightings of the ute, which has frontal damage.

Anyone with information on Blewden's whereabouts or the stolen vehicle is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Aaron Crawford or Detective Sergeant Dave Wilkinson at Whangarei Police, (09) 430 4500. Anonymous tips can be made to Crimestoppers, 0800 555 111.
