Christmas at home for Whangarei drink driver

A Whangarei woman has been ordered to spend Christmas and New Year at home after being convicted of her third drink-driving offence.
Jutheena Rita HEKE, 51, appeared in Whangarei District Court recently charged with driving with excess breath alcohol for a third or subsequent time.
Heke was stopped by police on Anzac Rd, Whangarei, about 10.18pm on June 17 and given a breath test. She had a level of 883 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, more than twice the legal limit of 400mcg.
Heke admitted drinking wine before driving and had two previous drink-driving convictions. She was sentenced to three months' community detention and disqualified from driving for 13 months.
Northland has the highest rate of recidivist drink-drivers in the country and the Northern Advocate is publishing its "name and shame" list of people convicted.
