Nobody was injured when a large crane toppled in a Whangarei engineering yard.
A five-axle Liebherr LTM 1100 crane ended up with wheels in the air and its right-hand rear side crunched against the ground after the accident at Culham Engineering yesterday afternoon.
The large telescopic boom of the crane, which stretches
from 11.5m to 52m, was bent by the force of the collapse, but no injuries were reported as a result of the incident at Culham's Hewlett St yard.
The boom is believed to be able to be fixed.
The Department of Labour said late yesterday it had been informed about the accident and would investigate.
As there were no injuries it was unlikely the department would take any action.
A spokesperson for Culham could not be contacted for comment.
The LTM 1100 is capable of lifting up to 100 tonnes. What the crane was lifting at the time of the accident is not known.
