The Blue Team won but the tension was so high that the women from both Mitre 10 Dream Home teams were crying - before the winner was even announced.
The filming, the cheering, the cheer-leading, the auctioneering, the nerves ...
It went on for a long, tough hour last night before the two competing couples learned who had won. Both couples had poured their hearts and souls into creating their dream homes from a couple of tired old state houses. With the help of expert advisers, both had produced stylish homes When the announcement came that the Blue Team of Kylee Wyatt and Brent Old had won, and their supporters in the crowd performed a rousing haka, emotions spilled over.
Fighting back disappointment, Alice Montgomery and Matthew Baker (Yellow Team) were the first to congratulate their rivals. Then Ms Montgomery and Mr Baker turned to the hard job of bidding to buy their house at the show's final test for contestants, an auction.
The couple's night became even harder as a member of the public bid against them, forcing the bidding up from an almost-sold price of $195,000 to the price they finally secured the house at $247,500.
More than 200 people turned up at the Kamo site for the live broadcast of the show's seasonal finale hosted by Jayne Kiely.
Before filming began both couples admitted being very nervous. Ms Wyatt said that whatever way the vote went, she and Mr Old had hoped to keep their house, by buying or winning it. Taking part in the show had been a wonderful experience, she said. "We've enjoyed it all, although it's been a lot harder work than we thought it would be. But we've met lots of people and made lots of new friends and that's been a real bonus."
The houses were finished several months ago, after the couples and their teams worked on them each weekend for two months.
