Police are still working to identify the man who was found dead on rocks at Whangarei Heads.
Investigations are under way following the discovery of the man's body near the northern end of Kauri Mountain Beach at around 6.15pm on Wednesday.
The spot where the man was found is an area of high cliffs and a rocky beach, and it was just about low tide when he was discovered.
An initial assessment suggested he had possibly been washed off rocks or fallen from a cliff. It's believed the man may have been fishing.
Police said the man is possibly in his 30s, around 182cmin height, of slim build with a slim face and a medium length beard.
