Last year Constable Aaron Furze watched his colleagues lay down the law in the boxing ring to raise money for charity and thought he would also catch this year's action from outside the ring.
But now the new Onerahi community constable has been given a late call-up to fight in the Spartan Night of the Champions Services event at Forum North on Saturday night.
The money raised will go towards the Child Cancer Foundation and Debra New Zealand, which is a charity supporting families with children born with EpidermolysisBullosa, a rare disease where the skin fails to attach to the muscles, which results in blistering.
Despite only having two weeks to prepare, Aaron "Fists Full of Fury" Furze didn't hesitate when event organiser Constable Atawhai Henare drafted him into the ring to fight fellow officer Detective Sam Kemp.
His motivation was seeing his best mate's little boy battle leukaemia.
