A Far North artist who is replicating an entire office cubicle by carving every item from wood has won a prestigious arts residency in Wellington.
Glen Hayward, who lives in the isolated Wekaweka Valley, inland from Waimamaku in South Hokianga, starts his three-month residency in June.
He is known for his fantastically realistic carvings of everyday objects, such as fire extinguishers, cardboard boxes and even polystyrene packaging.
His most ambitious project so far is to recreate an institutional office space cubicle, based on Mr Anderson's cubicle in the movie the Matrix, with every object carved and painted by hand.
The Rita Angus Residency is a joint venture between Wellington Institute of Technology and Thorndon Trust, and aims to help artist complete new work using WelTec resources such as digital equipment and construction tools.
