Flamingo - Brandon Flowers
3.5/5
It ain't The Killers, but it's not entirely removed from Flowers' regular band's sound.
Suitably for a solo album from a lead singer, this release is all about Brandon.
The lyrics and vocals, backed by sometimes cheesy instrumentation, dominate each song, whereas with The Killers it's generally the
strength of the songwriting as a whole that stands out.
So it makes sense that the best tracks here are those that most resemble the band's sound.
Which almost begs the question: What's the point, Brandon?
On balance it's clear Flowers seems to prefer synths over guitars, two styles heard on Killers' albums, but the best tracks on Flamingo, as with the Killers' discography, are the rockier numbers like first single Crossfire and Jilted Lovers & Broken Hearts.
That said, this album is a grower and a worthwhile listen for Killers fans.
