In-form short stop Harata Kenny again stole the limelight for Dodgers in a Hawke's Bay premier women's softball match last night.
Kenny collected two hits from four turns at bat in Dodgers' 8-4 win against Tommos Fast Pitch at Akina Park, Hastings. One was an error-assisted in-park home run and she
also hit two runners home.
Fellow infielder Lisa Pohatu also collected two hits from four turns and batted two runners home. Pohatu also stole a base.
Teagen Russell was another Dodgers batter to shine with two hits from two turns as her team out-hit Dodgers 9-4. Fast Pitch's eight defensive errors, seven more than Dodgers', proved costly.
Eden Poihipi-Edwards collected two of Fast Pitch's four hits.
Three double plays were a feature of Dodgers' slick defensive work. Dodgers used two pitchers. Erina Kahukura faced 24 batters during her 5.33 innings. She conceded eight walks, four runs (two of which were earned) and two hits before being replaced by 12-year-old Rita Hokianga, who struck out one of the nine batters she faced while conceding two hits and three walks.
Central Vikings outfielder Liani Samuel proved she had recovered from a recent groin injury when she caught for White Sox pitcher Michal Tangaroa, who struck out seven of the 33 batters she faced during six innings on the mound. She conceded two walks in addition to the nine hits.
