Shane Hurndell Six youngsters who impressed on the Hawke's Bay Development rugby team's tour of Australia in March were today named in the Magpies training squad. Hastings Rugby and Sports fullback James Rosenberg, the star of Tuesday's Kelt Capital Magpies trial, his Central counterpart, Kevin Ward, Taradale utility back Dan Waenga, Centralhooker Matt Donnithorne and the Havelock North pair of No.8 Adam Bradey and flanker Tivaini Fomai are all in a 48-strong squad from which two teams will be selected for games against Wellington and Wairarapa Bush on the Queen's Birthday. All six have yet to play for the Magpies. Originally, Magpies coach Brendon Ratcliffe was going to name teams for the games today, but he opted to start with the squad which will train together before he names the two sides next week. "We should hear next week whether or not Dan (Waenga) and Bryn (Evans) are selected for New Zealand under-21 trials, and if they are they won't be available on the Queen's Birthday," Ratcliffe said. At the other end of the experience scale, former New Zealand Maori prop Orcades Crawford, 39, has taken another step in his quest to make the Magpies team five years after he last represented the Bay and 19 years after making his first class debut. Another former Hurricane, halfback Richard Jarman, has predictably made the squad after a tidy trial and outstanding form for Nash Cup winners Havelock North. His clubmate Chris Eaton, Central's Richard Bousfield and Napier Pirate Rugby and Sports' Chad Shepherd are the other halfbacks. Exciting Napier Old Boys Marist winger Migao Lauano must be considered the bolter. He is in his first season of premier club rugby and has yet to represent Hawke's Bay at any age group level. * Magpies squad in Results.
