The Heretaunga Club member from Hastings will compete in the third edition of the annual clash between New Zealand and Australia's Professional Bowls Associations at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club on the Gold Coast. The countries are 1-1 after two tests.
The Kiwi side includes the players who won the 2011 challenge.
Chris Lourie, of Waikato, Glassey and Ken Walker, of Dunedin, qualified as three of the top four players in the New Zealand PBA rankings as at the end of 2011. Raika Gregory, of Waikato, is invited back having won the challenge tournament last year for the Kiwis; and Peter Wilson, of Dunedin, is a late replacement after the withdrawal of 2011 No2-ranked player Jamie Hill, of Auckland, who has taken a rest from bowls. John Cross, of Dunedin, is team manager.
Two rounds of matches were to be played today with Gregory opening the defence of his title against Brett Wilkie; Lourie playing Steve Glasson; Glassey facing Kelvin Kerkow; Walker meeting Karen Murphy; and Wilson going up against Ben Twist. The feature of the day was expected to be the second-round clash between Gregory and Glasson, repeating last year's final.
Five rounds are to be played over today and tomorrow.
