"Hopefully Ben will get in there and knock a few of them over," Hunt says.
He is adhering to the plan of resting ex-Black Cap Adam Milne.
In comes fellow Palmerston North player Roald Badenhorst, a right-arm medium pacer.
On the batting front, Greg Todd comes in for New Zealand captain Ross Taylor, and opening batsman Peter Ingram returns from family bereavement, which means Dean Robinson is in the Hawke Cup mix for Taranaki against Hawke's Bay in Napier.
Badenhorst and left-arm spinner Marty Kain, of Nelson, are still waiting to make their debut on a traditionally batting strip.
"It's a typical Rangiora grassy wicket, so it won't offer much pace but it will swing a bit," Hunt says, hoping the CD attack will bowl in channels that will force the Wizards to take risks.
He also wants to see his top-order batsmen going on from good starts to turn their scores into a sizeable first-innings total.
Ex-international batsman Mathew Sinclair, who in the opening round became the first Stag to play 100 first-class matches for CD and celebrated his 36th birthday, too, on November 9, said he believes that's the only way to prevent Canterbury from making unrealistic declarations, as they did in the match against Auckland on Thursday which petered to a lacklustre draw.
"That's Canterbury for you, so you have to make them chase a total," Sinclair said.
A little annoyed with going out against Otago three overs before lunch for playing a sweep shot to Nick Beard for 32 runs, Sinclair agreed with Hunt he had made a bad decision.
"It was random for me, and obviously things didn't go to plan," says the man who holds the record for most runs for CD of 7794, with Ingram behind him on 5110 and CD Hinds coach Mike Shrimpton on 4551 in third place.
"I don't like counting figures, but every game is a challenge with CD, and I'm as rapt as anyone.
"It's a great honour for me and I look forward to those behind me eclipsing that total," says the veteran, who has a plethora of batting, partnership, fielding and appearances records for CD.
For the record, he shared a wee slice of birthday cake with his two children on November 9.
