It wasn't quite the swansong Hawke's Bay bodybuilder Gary Nairn wanted but he was still a happy man last night. "I know I was hoping for a top six finish but the calibre was so high - a lot higher than my previous Universe Champs and the two world championships Icompeted in I couldn't be happier," said Nairn who ended his 10-year bodybuilding career at the Germany-hosted champs with a 10th placing. Nairn, 37, was in a 20-strong class at the champs which attracted 200 competitors. The Reignier Catholic School teacher had earlier this year won the national title, a Pro-Am international competition in the and Mr Hawke's Bay and Mr Wellington titles. "I came over here in the best shape of my career and I know I couldn't have done any more," he added. Nairn plans to train bodybuilders.
