It's a bit early in the day for champagne, but Onekawa's Andrew Spence Pharmacy is sure to be celebrating after making a customer $4.2 million richer.
The Big Wednesday Division One winning ticket was sold at the Napier pharmacy and had a total value of $4,247,140. By mid-morning, whoever landed
the big haul had not returned to the shop to claim the goodies.
Shop assistant Kristy McGrail said she had no idea who bought the lucky ticket "but we hope it's one of our regulars".
Ms McGrail believed that when the ticketholder discovered they could now drive the same make of car as James Bond, they would head straight to Wellington to cash the ticket in. The last big win for the store was in July 2005 when it sold the winning $12 million Powerball ticket. "We're quite a lucky store," she said.
Lotteries' chief executive Todd McLeay said to win the big prize a ticketholder would have had the six winning numbers - 6, 9, 14, 18, 37 and 38 - and correctly picked "tails" in the coin toss to win.
The winner would collect $2,444,732 million in cash; an Aston Martin V8 Vantage; an Audi Q7; a credit card with $250,000 loaded on it; $250,000 worth of travel; a Rayglass Legend 2500 boat; a $500,000 holiday home package and a $750,000 apartment package.
It is the second time a Hawke's Bay person has scooped Big Wednesday's First Division. It was last won by a Taradale ticketholder in December 2006.
