A massive load of export apples destined for foreign markets made it barely a few kilometres on their journey yesterday before coming a cropper in Hastings.
A truck carrying 21 pallets of export apples rolled on a corner on Raupare Rd as it made its way from Crasborn's Omahu Rd packhouse
to the Port of Napier.
Emergency services staff at the scene said the driver made the decision to use Raupare Rd rather than the Expressway and failed to negotiate a turn a few hundred metres along the road.
The truck tipped outside a house, crushing a row of trees and part of a fence.
Firefighter Bruno Saathof said the driver was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with minor injuries.
"I think his pride was hurt more than anything," he said.
