Competing against almost 1000 other Year 6 students wasn't a daunting prospect for Weber School students, instead, they thrived on the challenge.
Eight Year 6 students from the small rural Tararua school attended the Super Sixes Tournament in Hastings, along with other students from around Hawke's Bay and as faraway as Gisborne, Wellington and Whanganui.
There were seven sports on offer, with Weber competing in the tag rugby and then hockey the following day.
"With teamwork, grit and determination, as well as a fair bit of skill, our students were runners-up to College Street Normal from Palmerston North in the hockey final," Weber principal Janine Satchwell said.
"This was an incredible achievement for a school of only 59 students, including two non-hockey players who both played in every game."
Satchwell said the excitement and camaraderie of the students was a delight to watch and their participation and attitude was outstanding.
"They were an amazing bunch of students who played touch rugby and then hockey - that's teamwork," she said. "This was a special time for our students."
