After going to see a friend and only finding his chocolate Labrador puppy home, an 18-year-old Onekawa, Napier, man decided to steal it and try and sell the dog.
Isaac Matthew King, unemployed, pleaded guilty in the Napier District Court on Wednesday to stealing the dog.
King stole the $750 puppy fromhis friend on August 23 and hid it at another associate's house.
When questioned by police he owned up and returned the dog.
He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon in nine months.
