A woman charged with assault following the death of a man in Hastings has been denied bail.

The 36-year-old, who was granted interim name suppression at today's appearance in Hastings District Court, wore a police-issued jump suit and wept during the hearing.

Her lawyer, Nicola Graham, argued for a release on bail, but this was opposed by police and ultimately declined by a Justice of the Peace.

No plea was entered and she would appear next on April 30.

Police are still investigating the suspicious death at the Hastings' property in Feguson St, Akina, and it's understood more people are being sought in relation to the incident.

The man's body was found when emergency services were called to the property at 9.10pm last night.

"There will be a police presence at the property for some time while a scene examination takes place," police said.

A Ferguson St resident said he didn't realise what was going on until he saw police at his neighbour's address this morning.

"My partner said she saw a group of men coming out of the house and into the garage last night," the man said.

"Eight came running out of the shed and three jumped into a purple car and took off," he said.

Last night's death follows a suspected homicide in Akina in February.

Police were called to a Lumsden Rd address after receiving a report of a critically injured man.
