Strong demand for good quality cattle was the feature of this week's store cattle sale at Stortford Lodge.
There were 734 head on offer and a big bench of mostly local buyers.

In the sheep section prices were firm on last week for better quality stock. There was a big yarding of 9594, mostly lambs.
Buyers were mostly local with one or two from Feilding.

Good quality cattle were in strong demand at Monday's prime sale.
Cows were up 10c a kg and heifers five cents, reflecting a rise in the schedule. The yarding of 103 head was made up of 55 heifers, 34 cows, 10 ox and four bulls. Buyers were from Waikato, King Country and Hawke's Bay.
Heifers: Angus, angus/hereford cross, crossbred, and devon, average weight, 451kg to 543kg, 222c/kg to 235c/kg, $1140/head to $1181/head.
Ox: Simmental-cross, angus-cross, devon, average weight, 486kg to 630kg, $228.5c/kg to $236.5c/kg, $1124/head to $1449/head.
Cows: Angus, angus-cross, hereford, friesian, average weight, 411kg to 611kg, 113c/kg to 182c/kg, $465/head to $1057/head.
Bulls: Hereford, angus, friesian, Simmental, weight, 545kg to 755kg, 234c/kg to 238.5c/kg, $1281/head to $1801/head.
Prices for ewes and lambs continued their steady rise. The offering of 849 head was made up of 667 ewes and 182 lambs. Buyers were from Wairoa, Hawke's Bay and Wellington.
Top price was $135 for five heavy ewes. In the lamb section a pen of 18 woolly lambs went for $128.50. a pen of good blackface lambs made $128.
nEwes: Six heavy slipe, 132.50; two heavy shorn cryptorchids, $127; 61 heavy ewes, $118; four heavy shorn, $115; 10 woolly, $115; 40 heavy, $112; 25 good slipe, $111; 12 heavy, $107.50; 14 heavy, $100.50; 12 good, $99.50; 29 good slipe, $96; 43 good slipe, $94.50; 21 good, $91.50; 21 good slipe, $90.50.
Lambs: 21 good males, $125; five woolly, $123.50; seven the same, $112; 12 good, 17 good woolly, $110; 27 good shorn b/f, $108.50; 12 good, $107.50; five good coloured, $98.50; 10 good shorn, $98.
