Slow speed chase in Napier

Police pursued this vehicle for almost two hours in Napier central last night.

A low-speed car chase in Napier last night lasted about an hour and a half.

The chase began just after 11pm and made its way from the Greenmeadows end of Taradale Road into central Napier.

The vehicle that was being pursued is believed to be a Toyota Hilux, and the two front wheels had been blown out.

Despite this the driver continue to flee.

Hundreds of people lined the streets in Taradale, Greenmeadows, Onekawa, Marewa and Maraenui to watch the chase unfold.

A queue of cars followed at least five police cars in pursuit.

The pursuit ended at about 12.30am on Kennedy Rd.

Two people were arrested as a result.

Hundreds of locals took to social media to discuss the chase as it happened, some disappointed with the actions of locals.

"I can not believe the people following the chase. Police will be disappointed with Napier city people & so they should be."
"Hindering the chase, putting themselves in danger.
Disappointed with my home town," one woman said.
