Titles have been formally registered for the two Hobbit movies to be made in New Zealand and directed by Sir Peter Jackson, and they take inspiration directly from Tolkien.
Hobbit author JRR Tolkien fan site theonering.net reports New Line Cinemas have registered the titles -- The Hobbit: An/The Unexpected Journey, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again -- for the two-part movie adaptation of The Hobbit.
There and back again was part of the original title Tolkien gave the whole Hobbit story, while An/The Unexpected Journey is a take on the opening chapter of the Hobbit -- ``An unexpected party''.
Comments on the fan site said An/The Unexpected Journey would have to be the title of part one, ``because part one obviously would not be including the `back again' part of the story''.
Fan comments almost unanimously voted for An Unexpected Journey.
