Te Mata Peak's Peak House celebrated opening its doors last night under new management.

Local businessman Alex Kersjes is leasing the building, which was gutted and refurbished inside. It opens as a cafe/restaurant with additional bed-and-breakfast accommodation.

"It's an amazing feeling, it's a labour of love," Mr Kersjes said at the opening function (pictured).

"There has been a lot of hard work go into this place but it's been a lot of fun as well. It's an amazing and special place."

Te Mata Park Trust approved the new lease for Peak House, which had been vacant for more than 12 months.
