The New Zealand Transport Agency is warning about new versions of an online phishing scam which asks drivers to provide their licence and credit card details on fake versions of the NZTA website. The agency warned about the scam last week, and is offering to waive the fee for a replacementdriver's licence for victims. Emails, claiming to be from the NZTA Services Team or NZTA Account Review Department, have been sent to some customers. Phishing scams attempt to gain personal details from recipients, and may result in identity theft or theft of credit card details. People receiving the emails should delete them immediately, NZTA spokesman Andy Knackstedt said. The NZTA has advised the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Department of Internal Affairs about the emails, and they have been added to lists of scam alerts. Another hoax email circulating claims to be from the Inland Revenue Department and asks people to provide driver's licence details in order to receive a tax rebate. People who entered their personal details on the hoax website should contact the NZTA on 0800 822 422 to have their licences cancelled. The agency is offering to waive the normal fee of $38.20 for a replacement licence for those caught out. Credit card holders should also cancel their card if they have provided card details on the fake websites. The payment processing page has an ASB Bank CardPay logo to further authenticate the scam.
