The sun was not shining, but it was a good day for the ducks at Karamu Stream in Havelock North yesterday.
A flock of little yellow rubber ducks was released during the Havelock North Central Kindergarten's annual duck race.
Two thousand of the ducks made their way down stream, from the release
point at Havelock Rd bridge to a finish line marked with flags near the Crosses Rd bridge.
The event has continued to grow every year, with members of the community coming out in droves to participate in the race by purchasing a duck.
People had the option of buying a Deluxe Duck for $30 or a Family Duck for $3.
Kindergarten head teacher Fiona Mason said this year was the most successful duck race yet.
"It was fantastic, there was a huge crowd and we raised $6000, which is probably double last year," she said.
But the most important part of all, was bringing families together on the day.
The Deluxe Duck winner was Victoria Oliver, who took away a prize pack including two nights' stay at Black Barn Vineyards Black Dog Cottage, a $50 Loading Ramp voucher, and a Weleda gift pack.
The Family Duck winner, the McKinney family, won two nights' stay at a bach in Taupo, a $50 Off The Track voucher, Clearview wine and an ITM cricket set.
